Dog Training by: Andrew Strachan

One of the few things that dog owners or prospective dog owners consider is whether or not they need to train their dog. While training a dog is not absolutely essential, unless your dog has a particular problem, a small amount of training to eliminate bad habits and September the limits of your dog should be considered. In addition, a dog trained feel more secure in your house when he knows his limits. Even in nature, a dog will have some sort of enforced limits of behavior by the pack structure and hierarchy that exists. At the end of the day, your dog is part of your pack.

A very important point to note on the formation of dog is that any form of training approaches should be in the context of "positive reinforcement". It simply means that you should reward your dog with praise, treat or, better still, both for positive behavior it exhibits. The success will come quickly to anyone who rents a dog for good behavior. We can not be said of someone who has a dog punished for exposing NOT good behavior.

For example - If you ask your dog to sit and it does, you give him a treat. In the minds of dogs said at the meeting is to be treated. Easy.

Now, if you tell your dog to sit and it does not, and then punish you? In the minds of dogs you just flat chance on the penalty for nothing. This will serve your dog to confusion and lead his distrust you.

Positive reinforcement is key.

One of the major mistakes made by dog owners is to train their dog inadvertently ....... into bad habits. Typical examples include barking, face Licking, jumping in place. Let's look at each one.

Barking - Most dogs bark, it is a fact. When a dog barks that determines if it is a normal behavior or a bad habit. If your dog barks only when someone comes to the door - fine. This is normal territorial behavior. Your dog is warning you - as a member of his pack - there is a potential danger to the door.

If your dog spends the better part of his Waking Life barking about everything you own, then it is formed into a bad habit - but that is easy to cure.

The first mistake people make is to shout "silent" or "Shut up" to their dog barking. The main reason why this will not work is simple. Your dog barks, then "bark". From your point of view you're shouting your dog to shut up. Your dog perspective, you are barking along and enjoy the noise.

A more effective method is to wait for a break in your dog's barking then piles of lots of praise and a treat for your dog. Once the new starts to bark, ignore your dog, walk off - but there do not pay attention to your dog. Then, when the barking stops processing time again. It will not be long before your dog puts two and two together.

Licking face - the face is a Licking reversal of your puppy dog days. Face is a Licking a puppy for her mother to regurgitate food for them. You often see this in nature. Also wild dogs lick the face of a senior member of the pack to accept and express their state of submission in the pack. Unfortunately, because you and your family members are higher in the pack, you get the Licks!

Licking face at first sight is not a problem, but should still be avoided because of health problems. Never leave a dog Lick a baby or toddler face. This is likely to expose the infant to germs that his immune system May not be able to handle. Similarly, if your dog has worms or investigated other dogs or even feces grooming itself, the last thing you want your dog to come and Lick your face. Try and discourage this behavior by using positive reinforcement.

When your dog approaches your face firmly - but not shouting - say "No!" If the dog does not reverse its push away from your face. When the first dog responds to the "no" sentence, it is time to address. Keep this regularly, and the dog will face Licking is unacceptable.

Jumping Up - Jumping in May seems not such a bad habit, but if there are young children on this subject can be very dangerous. Your dog may not know that jumping on you is ok but not jump on children. This will only confuse the dog. Try to discourage this behavior by saying that the dog "Up!" each time she jumps. Give him a treat when she reacts and after each time until you just need to use words.

There are many simple ways you can train your dog. These are just a few. There is no need to tolerate bad habits in your dog as they can be easily corrected. Oh, and do not reflect the expression "You can not teach old dog new tricks, you can - it's never too late.
